Cutting scionwood last weekend was a lesson in extremes. On Saturday, we cut apple scionwood at the Gillett orchard. It was in the 20’s, calm, and cloudy. We cut scionwood on rows 8 through 35. See the picture of the haul below. Now we only have rows 36 to 76 left. We might have cut longer but the temps were dropping fast at 4:30pm and Porter started to whine. He was just voicing (in his own way) how Karen and I felt. Didn’t he look sad?!?! On Sunday, we were forced to cut scionwood at the Suamico orchard since we wouldn’t need to drive. It was in the 40’s but the fog and mist made for a very wet day. Needless to say, we didn’t make a lot of progress.
